Shimura Curves Lecture Notes 11: Integral Structures, Genera and Class Numbers

چکیده

1. Formulae for genera, volumes, class numbers Throughout these notes, we shall use D to denote the product of an even number (possibly zero) of distinct primes, and D′ the product of an odd number of distinct primes. Thus D (resp. D′) is the discriminant of a unique indefinite (resp. definite) rational quaternion algebra B/Q of discriminant D (resp. D′). Recall that the discriminant map induces a bijection from the set of isomorphism classes of rational quaternion algebras over Q to the set of squarefree positive integers.

Selections from the Arithmetic Geometry of Shimura Curves I: Modular Curves

This first lecture is on (classical) modular curves. It is a rather “straight up” expository account of the subject, suitable for people who have heard about modular curves before but seen little about them. After reviewing some truly classical results about modular curves over the complex numbers, we will discuss rational and integral canonical models, focusing in on the case of X0(N) for squa...

Equations of Shimura Curves of Genus Two

LetBD be the indefinite quaternion algebra overQ of reduced discriminantD=p1· · · · ·p2r for pairwise different prime numbers pi and let XD/Q be the Shimura curve attached to BD. As it was shown by Shimura [23], XD is the coarse moduli space of abelian surfaces with quaternionic multiplication by BD. Let W = {ωm : m | D} ⊆ Aut Q(XD) be the group of Atkin-Lehner involutions. For any m | D, we wi...

Canonical models of Shimura curves

As an introduction to Shimura varieties, and, in particular, to Deligne’s Bourbaki and Corvallis talks (Deligne 1971, 1979), I explain the main ideas and results of the general theory of Shimura varieties in the context of Shimura curves. These notes had their origin in a two-hour lecture I gave on September 10, 2002. They are available at www.jmilne.org/math/. Please send corrections and comme...

Three Lectures on Shimura Curves

These notes are taken from a lecture series in three parts given at the University of Sydney in April 2006. In the rst part, we introduce Shimura curves for the non-expert, avoiding technicalities. In the other two sections, we discuss the moduli interpretation of Shimura curves and treat some of the computational aspects. Ever wondered what a Shimura curve is? They lie at the crossroads of man...

Lectures on Shimura Curves 0: Modular Curves

General remarks about these documents: These are lecture notes. Let us reflect separately on the meaning of both words. The first word is meant to indicate some correspondence between what is said in the lectures and what appears in these notes. This correspondence is not precise: on the one hand, in response to a question or a comment, I may say things in class which do not make it into these ...
